Sir Tony Blair has prompted Britain to embrace AI medical professionals and nurses as he said the world was 'in the foothills' of the most significant tranformation since the Industrial Revolution.
The former prime minister claimed AI could have an 'definitely transformative' effect on public services by making them better, more affordable and more effective.
He stated, if he was in power today, he would be thinking of 'how you reorganise the entire federal government around how you accept and gain access to this revolution'.
The ex-Labour premier detailed how 'all the regular tasks' in Whitehall might be freed up by innovation.
Sir Tony said it was 'absurd' the UK hadn't yet made NHS information readily available to harness innovation.
He also provided a withering decision on the civil service, declaring it was a 'conspiracy for inertia' with a 'genius for soaking up the inspiration for modification and suffocating it'.
A current Government experiment with AI - involving 20,000 civil servants across 12 major organisations - conserved authorities an average of 26 minutes a day.
It showed how AI tools might maximize Whitehall staff from 'recurring administrative jobs' and deliver higher value for British taxpayers.

Speaking at the SXSW celebration in London, Sir Tony said: 'We remain in the foothills of the most transformative transformation because the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century.

'Government's all about process, so you might use AI to speed up the process of the federal government, making certain that we do, for instance, all the routine jobs of government a lot more effectively.
'You could be reacting to people in a far more delicate, faster, better, more effective method.
'If, for example, you're able to combine data sets across departments, you're going to conserve money.

'You're going to analyse, based upon health information, in a manner that allows you to make much better health policy.
'And then, when you search in civil services, you need to have the ability to customise education in the future.
'You could have AI tutors, you need to have AI nurses, AI physicians. We are already doing a lot of imaging much, much better through utilizing AI.
'It will make [federal government] much smaller sized, more efficient, cost less and provide a much better service to the customer.'
Sir Tony said AI was neither 'good' nor 'bad' but a power that needed to be utilized responsibly.
He advised to accept the new technology, including: 'When I was maturing, individuals stated the civil service was a Tory conspiracy.
'And when I got in there, I realised it wasn't a conspiracy for the Tories or for Labour.
'It's a conspiracy for inertia, it has actually got a genius for soaking up the incentive for change and suffocating it.'
